Keep South Sacramento Together
Sacramento Neighborhoods United

Every 10 years, after the U.S. Census, the City of Sacramento must re-establish the boundaries for City Council districts. The resulting council district boundaries must be balanced in population in accordance with local, state, and federal rules governing the redistricting process.

In 2016, Sacramento voters amended the Sacramento City Charter to create the Sacramento Independent Redistricting Commission, taking redistricting out of the hands of the Mayor and City Council. While the creation of an independent redistricting commission was the right thing to do, redistricting is complicated and requires that communities speak up to ensure that our voice is not silenced.

South Sacramento neighborhoods including, Meadowview, Detroit, and Deerfield Mesa Grande need to be kept whole. The current city council boundaries in South Sacramento have existed since the 1990’s. We have worked well with the existing city council boundaries in South Sacramento, but it’s time for our communities to be reunited. The City of Sacramento’s Independent Redistricting Commission is currently deciding on a final draft map that will impact our communities for the next 10 years.

Tell The Commission to Keep Us Together!

Don’t Split Meadowview

The City of Sacramento Independent Redistricting Commission has finalized a draft map that it will likely adopt on December 16th.

This map splits our community, taking 1/3 of Meadowview placing it with neighborhoods like Hollywood Park and Oak Park.

How Can You Help?

The Sacramento Independent Redistricting Commission wants to hear from you. Tell them to Keep South Sac Together! The commission has worked hard to draw maps that connect neighborhoods and communities that have much in common. Unfortunately, Meadowview was split in their final map. “My greatest fear is that one day we may wake up and our democracy is gone. The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democracy.”
